How to treat low libido in females

The key to fixing low libido is to identify what is causing you to have reduced or no sex drive which could be related to medications, aging, low sex hormones like testosterone, or high SHBG which limits how much Testosterone converts to Free T. The good news is, we can always get to the bottom of it and help you jump start your sex life again!

What is Libido?

Libido is the Desire for sex or Sexual Drive. This manifests differently for everyone, and there is no right way or wrong way to have sexual desire. This is shaped by your experiences, your preferences, hormone levels, medications, health history, mood, and more can influence your Libido. However it happens is normal.

As we age, we find ourselves in this mindset that whatever we are dealing with is the new normal. This is a lie we tell ourselves because we are unaware that things can be different.

Living with Low Libido doesn’t have to be the new normal

For the longest time, I was like most people going through life witnessing women who were out of control, always on edge, always yelling at their spouse or kids, gaining weight and you would often hear people call them crazy. Can you recall hearing someone say, “She needs to go on a diet!” I found myself thinking these things as if they were meant to be said. These are the things that ignorant people say. I had no clue that there were options for these women. It never once occurred to me that they had ZERO control over it.

Slowly, as I dove into the medicine, the studies, listening to lectures and then finally I witnessed a loved one’s body falling apart on her in real time. It was heartbreaking to see that she had zero control over her emotions, her thoughts, her weight. She was transitioning from pre-menopause to peri-menopause and into full blown menopause. During this time, I know that Libido wasn’t even a consideration. You are probably thinking, what does being crazy and gaining weight have to do with Low Libido. Am I Right?

As a female transitions into her 40’s and 50’s, and sometimes even younger, her ovaries start producing less and less Sex Hormones. That means less Testosterone, less estrogen, less thyroid, less progesterone and this transition is brutal. Libido requires your sex hormones to be in abundant supply for you to have the desire to get a little frisky with your partner or whatever it is that floats your boat.

What are some things that kill Sex Drive?

Speaking from the male side of things, my advice to other males is simple. Don’t be an asshole to the ladies in your life. Understand that they are dealing with something heavy on them.

Here is a list of some libido killers:

Low Sex Hormones

At the end of the day, there are lots of things that cause you to lose sexual desire. The key is maintaining therapeutic levels of Free Testosterone in your bloodstream. Your Total Testosterone is not a good barometer for determining if there is enough gas in the tank. You could have high total and also have a high SHBG which binds up all the free leaving you with low free testosterone levels.

So it really is pretty simple to fix low libido.

Our first step is to determine your Total and Free Testosterone levels. The blood panel we use, has several other things that we consider, though for simplicity, we only need to mention Testosterone.

With low blood levels, we then start going through the steps of identifying what is causing your levels to be low. This could be as simple as Age, Menopause, Depression Medications. The list is endless. Here’s the bottom line…if it is low, we are going to get it up to where you may have been in your late teens and early twenties. If you were like me back in the day, you were invincible, had plenty of drive and motivation including LIBIDO!

So let’s raise your testosterone

Low Libido Hormone Treatment

It’s amazing that we have been able to witness relationships that are crumbling because the spark is gone, he is this or she is that. There are a million different reasons the marriage or relationship is sucking wind. For the most part, they are sick of each other and can’t find a single nice thing to say about the other. They give it one last attempt to cross all the efforts off the list and decide the last thing is Hormone Optimization.

The couples enter, the wife usually states that she had to drag him in. After a few more pestering jabs and verbal low blows, they both agree to get Hormone Pellet Therapy. Phew! Some of these situations are hard to get through, especially when you think one of the partners isn’t going to do it. It’s all we can do to educate on the benefits of true hormone optimization.

The relationship and Libido Transformation

The couple returned for their followup labs and to check in after 6 weeks since they started therapy. There is now a spark in each of them that was gone when they came in. They are Hugger’s now and are passing them out like candy to everyone for turning their lives around. This is incredible to witness.

The benefits of optimizing your hormones are immeasurable. Women become kind again and more nurturing. Men become gentle, helpful, and begin to look through you like he did when you first met. You are now both in deep smit! You both regain passion for each other reignite that drive to succeed at life together again.  The other side effect is you both start to normalize in body weight, you look up 9 months down the road and you’ve lost 20lbs. As long as you’re not pounding sugar every day and drinking a bottle of wine every night which you and I both know is really only 2 glasses.

Hormones are the chemical messages that tell your cells, bones, nerves, and organs how to function. Everything in us has an androgen receptor. The heart has more androgen receptors than any other organ and yet modern medicine states that testosterone will cause heart issues. That is just not the truth and there are hundreds articles and studies that back this up. You can read a few here.

Hormonal Imbalances

But the kicker is the root cause of low libido – proven by study after study – usually comes from hormonal imbalances, such as:

Through bioidentical hormone replacement therapy (BHRT), we offer an alternative to using drugs that essentially work as a “band-aid” covering up your symptoms.

Instead, we offer a natural and integrated approach to hormone therapy – one in which we look at all the factors that may be contributing to your hormone levels and quality of life, and propose a treatment plan using only natural hormones, via hormone pellets, your body will recognize.

What Is the Root Cause of Low Libido in Women?

So let’s get right down to it:

Naturally, this is almost an impossible question to answer – as a lower sex drive occurs on a case by case basis. However, we have two main categories that tend to cause low libido in women:

  • Hormonal imbalances

  • External or emotional variables

Hormonal Imbalances

By their mid-late thirties, most women experience a decrease in hormone production – specifically:

  • Estrogen

  • Testosterone

  • Progesterone

A decreased sex drive is a symptom that frequently occurs during this time, among others. Fast forward ten years to the mid-late forties and an even more significant decrease in libido often happens.

So this is one piece of the puzzle – naturally occurring hormonal imbalances that happen as women age are almost always one culprit of low libido.

External and Emotional Variables

But there’s more – time and time again, studies have shown that external factors have an impact on women’s sex drives. This could be anything from relationship issues to stress to just plain exhaustion.

And of course, the hormonal changes women experience as they enter their late thirties onward tend to cause greater:

  • Fatigue

  • Stress

  • Anxiety

  • Sleep loss

So, all of the things that might inhibit your sex drive!

Got It, but What’s the Solution?

We can start by telling you that in most cases, a pharmaceutical pill will not address hormonal imbalances or emotional variables. What does address both of those factors, though, is EvexiPEL’s tried and true integrated approach to hormone optimization, hormone pellets. Here’s why our approach works!

Natural Approach

Instead of putting something synthetic into your body (which often either doesn’t work or works so sporadically that your body spends most of its time trying to play catch up), we use hormone pellets derived from natural, plant-based substances.

Individual Needs

This means we can cater each pellet to each patient’s individual needs. It also means that the pellets will metabolize naturally into your body, without causing adverse side effects.

This is particularly effective in cases of low libido, where a large part of the issue can usually be treated by addressing hormonal imbalances.

We Can Help

We’re prepared to “attack” on all cylinders. At EvexiPEL, we don’t just stick a pellet in your body and move on!

Our practitioners spend as much time as necessary, talking with their patients. This means they will not stop until they have uncovered the root cause (or causes) of the issues their patients are having.

This could require:

  • Several tests and follow-up tests

  • Multiple conversations

  • Open communication

Whatever you need, our providers will be there for you. Once the root cause of – in this case – low libido – is uncovered, our practitioners will work with you to devise a unique and effective treatment plan.

With issues such as a decreased sex drive, this treatment plan will often involve what is sometimes thought of as unconventional treatment methods.

This could mean seeking counseling detoxifying your environment or emotional well-being, nutritional supplementation, and more.

Either way, we’re here to work from the bottom up, not just to put a band-aid on your problems.
