Dr. Richard J. Conklin III is a board-certified medical oncologist and internist with more than three decades of clinical experience in hematology and oncology. He currently serves as Medical Director of Conklin Clinics in Aberdeen, South Dakota, where he oversees comprehensive patient care, including oncology, hematologic disorders, and advanced therapeutic services.

Dr. Conklin has had a distinguished career in both hospital-based and private practice settings. He previously practiced at Avera St. Luke’s Hospital, where he played a key leadership role in the delivery of oncology care across Northeast South Dakota. During his tenure, he served as Chief of Internal Medicine for over two decades and was actively involved in the hospital’s Medical Executive Committee and oncology clinical quality initiatives.

He has extensive experience in clinical research, having participated as an investigator in national oncology research groups, including NRG Oncology and the NCI cooperative group programs. His work has included both clinical trials and translational research, with publications in peer-reviewed journals focusing on hematologic and oncologic disease processes.

Dr. Conklin completed his fellowship in Hematology and Oncology at the Oklahoma University Health Sciences Center following his residency in Internal Medicine at the same institution. He earned his medical degree from Vanderbilt University School and his undergraduate degree in Biology and Chemistry from Syracuse University (He is board certified by the American Board of in Medical Oncology and Internal Medicine.

In addition to his clinical work, Dr. Conklin has been actively involved in advancing patient care through leadership, education, and quality improvement initiatives.
